Our Trip to Brownwood Begins

Today started off very hectic and rushed, as we tried to get all the last-minute things done before we left. We finished up our sign and put everything on the car. We set up a camera on the dashboard to record the drive, so we might be using that footage in a video at some point. Now that we’ve gotten on the road we are a lot more relaxed. We have this time while we’re driving to really savor the moment and how we feel right now, right before we embark on a new adventure together and start a new chapter of our lives. We left at around 10 in the morning, so we have all day to drive through Austin to Brownwood and can take our time and make a few stops along the way.

Our first stop, of course, was at Buc-ee’s, a chain of travel centers in Texas. We filled up on gas and coffee and also bought beef jerky and some other food to snack on in the car. With that, we’re now ready to get back on the road and continue on our way.

Preparing for the Big Trip

It is now one day before we leave, and we only have a bit more to do to prepare. We’ve picked out a route to take, so we can visit various restaurants and vineyards on the way to Brownwood through Austin and back. There are quite a few vineyards, and even though we may not go to all on our list, we’ll certainly try. We wanted to create a ‘Just Married’ sign to put on the back of the car, and use in photos. A week or so ago we went to the store to purchase the wooden board (we actually got it for free because it was scrap), paint, flowers, string, glue, all the little odds and ends to put it together. Admittedly we’re still working on it, even this evening, but the paint is drying, and in the morning the second coat of spray-on paint should be dry so we can make the finishing touches.

We’re still trying to get our bags packed. Our clothes are all cleaned and pressed, packed in their protective coverings to avoid getting dirty. We’re also bringing along our new camera and equipment, so we can take videos and photos to document our trip along the way. We don’t want to miss or forget a thing!

Choosing to Elope

We’ve been together for three years now, and we’ve known for nearly as long that we wanted to be together forever. Even though we wanted to get married, we felt that the production of big wedding wasn’t for us. We considered planning a wedding, but we wanted the ceremony to be personal, intimate, and true to ourselves and our relationship. Not to mention that after a long engagement while I was in college, we just wanted to be married already! An elopement was the obvious choice, so we decided to elope and have a reception later on to share the joy of our union with family and friends. It took a couple of months of planning to find the venue and book everything, eventually deciding on Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast in Brownwood, Texas to exchange our vows. We still have more plans and details to work out, but we’re very excited!
